  • History

All France Rugby Club was founded just after the first ever Rugby World Cup, in July 1987 by 3 rugby-mad French guys and an Aussie sitting in a bar, looking for a way to get into playing some rugby in their new home in Japan.

  • Rugby Play and Level

We play a wide variety of teams about twice a month: the Shuto League (in autumn) and friendly games. Sometimes, we offer our services to other teams.
– Club teams (YCAC, Tokyo Gaijin, Tokyo Crusaders anyone who challenges us)
– Corporate teams (NTT, Toshiba, Hitachi, Shimizu Construction, et cetera)
– Leagues (Tokyo Construction, Shuto, Tokyo, Kanto, Mitsui, et cetera)
– Military & Government (U.S. Navy and Tokyo Fire Department)

  • Team mates

Most of our players were and still are club and university level players . Some of our team mates were first timers and beginners who learned to play as the season went on, coached by the senior players. The team is very culturally diversified and the common thread that binds us is the love of rugby. Some of the professions of the team mates are:
– Banking (honest bankers)
– Broker/Dealers
– Teachers
– Students
– Playboy
– Military or government officials
– Construction engineers

  • Tours

We just returned from the Bangkok 10s, where we enjoy two days of high-level rugby. Every tour is the perfect occasion to go and discover Japan and Asia, within a nice team atmosphere, especially during the parties after the games. We usually tour in Asia and in Japan at least once a year with the whole team, but some players sometimes go on other tournaments in Asia with the French Asian Barbarians (FABs) or other teams.

We’ve been to Manila 10’s, Bali 10’s, Bangkok, Guam 10’s, and, in Japan, Sugadaira, Akita… Our primary concern on the tours, I have to be honest, is to have fun and experience the exotic locale, but we do commit in our games the following day. On the way and after the games, we party with the other teams, make new friends and watch our playboys’ skills with the ladies (you won’t see any photos of this).

  • Current board

In order to run the team, some people volunteered and took some time on their schedule to represent AFRC during meetings, manage the bank accounts, inform the team members and select players for the game. Here is a list of the current board members (update Aug 2010):
– President: Matthieu Rosenberg
– Coach & treasurer: Bruno Leroy
– Webmaster/Mailing-list coordinators: TBA
